Volunteer

These are just some of our ongoing volunteer needs, You can view our current volunteer needs and sign up online by clicking here

  • All volunteers working in Clubhouses, Athletics, and Licensed Childcare must complete a volunteer application and pass a state and federal criminal background check.  The volunteer application is available by contacting the Volunteer Coordinator or signing up online.
  • Volunteer opportunities look different for each person/group.  You bring with you talents & interests that are unique to you.  Maybe you want to help in the art room, maybe you love to read and want to start a youth book club, maybe you just like to tell jokes and hear children laugh; the opportunities are endless.  Volunteer schedules are tailored to your availability.  The Volunteer Coordinator will work with you to identify a Clubhouse to suit your needs and interest.

Clubhouse Welcome Desk

This volunteer is the one of the first faces Club Members and their families see upon arrival at a Clubhouse.  Welcome Desk Volunteers assist members with signing themselves into the Club, directing questions to Club staff, and providing a positive, welcoming environment for all who pass through our doors!

Coordinator of Fun

By engaging youth in educational and entertaining board and card games, volunteers build a stronger bond with members while teaching fundamental skills such as teamwork, strategy, sportsmanship and responsibility.

Volunteer Mentor

Volunteer Mentors engage youth in fun & educational programming, develop supportive relationships, and provide guidance & support.  Mentors may serve in areas such as: Homework help, sportsmanship through educational or physical games, modeling & encouraging healthy lifestyles, and overall social competence.

Resident Artist

Art in all its mediums is an optimum method at opening youth to culture, critical thinking and an open mind. By developing a creative environment in the Clubhouse, we foster those skills.  Art is also a means of expression and through this program, youth will develop healthy emotional coping skills.

Sports Coach – Basketball, Football, Soccer or Volleyball

The role of a Coach can be one of the most impactful an adult can make in the life of a child. Sports is among the few places where children can learn positive core values, engage in healthy risk taking, and learn life lessons in a safe environment. Like teachers, Coaches can be influential in the development of a child and help make sports a healthy, positive, and rewarding experience for their children, and their whole family.

Athletics Ambassador

An Athletics Ambassador helps promote Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska Athletics programs. This includes distributing and posting fliers to ASD schools and local businesses, placement of yard signs around the area, and generally, spreading the word about the sporting opportunities available to children through BGCA Athletics.
