RATE CHANGE NOTIFICATION: Child Development Center
Effective June 1, 2024 rates in the Child Development Center at Woodland Park and Turnagain Elementary will change. Rates have not increased since 2021. Rates will increase to meet the rising costs of doing business; including costs to retain well-qualified staff and maintain the highest safety standards. Rates will increase to match the State of Alaska assistance rates.
Monthly Rates for Anchorage:
Woodland Park
- Infants $1135 (Birth – 12 months)
- Toddlers $1148 (13 months – 35 months)
- Pre-K $1019 (36 months – 59 months)
Turnagain Elementary Only
- School Age Summer Rate $884 (5 years – 13 years)
- School Age School Year Rate $535 (5 years – 13 years)
CLASSROOM CLOSURE NOTIFICATION: Child Development Center
In accordance with State of Alaska childcare licensing notification requirements, effective June 1, 2024 the Woodland Park Child Development Center will consolidate classrooms, moving from three Pre-K rooms to two.
This consolidation is initially slated for 60 days (June 1 – July 31), classroom capacity will be reevaluated at that time. This change is due to the need to maintain ideal staffing ratios and maintain the highest safety standards. During this 60-day period we anticipate maintaining current staff while we recruit and train additional team members.
Parents and caregivers who currently have children in the Pre-K classrooms will be entered into a lottery for a potential slot in the two classrooms. Families and caregivers will be notified via ProCare by May 15, 2024 about the status of their placement.

- The municipality of Anchorage requires a 30-day notice for any changes of this nature. The cost of doing business has increased, we have not raised rates in over 3 years.
What is the actual cost difference for childcare?
- Prices are increasing to match the Alaska state childcare reimbursement rates. The State of Alaska reimbursement rate is below the current Anchorage market rate.

Will the $25 autopay discount still be in effect?
- Yes. You can receive a $25 childcare discount per child through Procare autopay. To receive this discount, you are responsible for setting up the autopay option within Procare. Discounts will only be applied to individuals that complete the autopay setup.

Classroom Consolidation: Woodland Park Child Development Center FAQs
Why are the changes happening?
- To ensure the long-term sustainability of childcare we are consolidating the PreK classroom to maintain the highest level of safety and quality.
Why change now?
- Due to being short-staffed, and to ensure the safety and quality of care, we need to temporarily consolidate classrooms. We anticipate this will reduce the number of short-notice closures due to staffing capacity and maintaining teacher to child ratio.
How many CDC slots will be available?
- The CDC PreK classrooms will be consolidated from three (3) to two (2), this means there will be a total of 40 spots available beginning June 1. All children with a current spot in a PreK classroom will automatically be entered into the lottery.
When and how will the lottery be conducted?
- The lottery will be conducted via an online randomizer as soon as possible and no later than May 15, 2024.
When and how will parents be notified of lottery results?
- Parents will be notified via Procare by 5:00PM on the day the lottery is held.
Will families with current classroom spots be given waitlist priority?
- Yes, families who currently have child(ren) in PreK classrooms will be moved to a priority waitlist based on lottery results. Children on the priority waitlist will be selected via an online randomizer and families will be notified via Procare.
How are toddlers moving up to PreK going to be impacted?
- Any children transitioning into a PreK classroom during June or July will be entered into the lottery. Classroom sizes and availability will be reevaluated in July.
Will families with child(ren) registered for fall classroom spots be impacted?
- The goal is to have our third classroom open in the fall.
How will families with child(ren) in other classrooms be impacted?
- Families with multiple children enrolled in other classrooms will only be impacted if their PreK child is not selected in the lottery.
Will families already on the waitlist for fall be impacted?
- Our goal is to recruit and train new staff so that the third PreK classroom can reopen.
- We anticipate the current waitlist status for all other age ranges to remain the same.

6 Weeks to 5 Years at Woodland Park
The Child Development Center is a licensed early childhood educational enrichment program that provides a safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive setting for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. The Center offers a variety of educational opportunities that reflect a child’s individual and group needs. Special emphasis is placed on activities that develop self-confidence, self-expression, positive social interactions, and self-reliance. Staff members are trained in early childhood development and offer children support, encouragement, and consistency.
School Aged Childcare at Woodland Park
School Aged Childcare is a licensed before-school and after-school program that provides services for children in grades K-6 (ages 5-12 years old). The Program offers a variety of activities that keep children engaged, developing self-confidence, self-expression, positive social interactions, and self-reliance through a learning based curriculum. We also offer transportation services to and from some area schools.
